Be Grateful for Small Things

I believe life is in the details. Small gestures can mean so much more than one grand display of love. Simple pleasures throughout the day can be far more gratifying than one amazing weekend. When you connect the dots between all these little joys, life seems fuller and more satisfying.

Often, we fail to realize that we already have what we need to enjoy life. I have grown up with these values in life- simplicity, happiness and contentment. Before, I used to see life differently. I used to complain about things, I used to envy people, I used to be not contented with what I had. The reality of life is there will always be misfortunes, problems, ups and downs. But, there will come a time that you will realize how blessed you are, and you will begin to appreciate the little things that end up making a big difference.

We could walk on our two feet going anywhere this life could take us, but how about those who were born without feet? We complain about the paper works we need to complete, but how about those armless people struggling to do what a physically complete person can do? Shouldn’t we be thankful for all of these? How about those cancer patients who are fighting for their lives, those who still want to spend their lives with their families? Often, we take the things we are blessed with for granted. Many of these basic things became an eye opener to me. Now, I see the world differently. I thank the Lord for everything, even the smallest things, because putting those tiny pieces together is what completes my journey in this world. I will everyday thank God for the beautiful sunshine in the morning, for the water I drink, for the birds chirping, for the rain falling, for my family, friends, co-workers and boss, for my job, for my puppy, for my fiance, for the air I breathe, for my good health.

It so wonderful to think of the future of this world if all the people will see things differently. Truly, we can always find extraordinary in the ordinary. Happiness is a choice, and I commit to making a difference by always choosing it.
