Knight and Day: For Darwin John Gonzales

Reading and writing has opened a new world for me, just like he did. A series of unfortunate events, that is how I viewed life before. But that changed when he came into my life. He kept on reminding me that every unfortunate event could be a blessing in disguise and the way I see life has changed since then.

I have chosen to thank him because he is not just my partner but also my mentor. He has gone through enough in life that made him stronger than he was before. And I am beyond blessed to have someone who has enough life experiences to be able to guide me every step of the way.

Two years ago, I decided to stop going to school because I felt lost. I felt the need to find myself and know my purpose. And in the process of finding myself, I also found him.

He witnessed those times that I cried because I felt like I was going nowhere. I felt inadequate and got to the point that the thought of dying no longer scared me. I was at the verge of giving up, but I can’t be thankful enough that he was there and never ceased to help me pull myself together.

He told me to have faith. Told me that God won’t give us circumstances we cannot overcome. That you’re meant to go through whatever it is you’re going through because of the fact that you can.

His words of encouragement opened my eyes and it has changed my life since then. It has changed me for the better and it was then that I understood that God removes and puts people in our lives for a reason.

To my partner, I can’t thank you enough for always reminding me to have faith whenever my demons would appear. You brought color to the gray world I used to live in and for that, I will forever be grateful.
