Mentor’s Lesson: You are What You Choose to Be: For Joel Luna

I’m an Architect by profession, currently working in Business Development. I worked for 5 years with my former boss and mentor Joel, who was the Chief Architect and Planner of my company before he retired. He was always eager and unselfish to share his expertise all throughout our working relationship. More than the design flair and architectural knowledge that Joel had shared with me, I think the most valuable lesson that I had learned from him is staying true to myself regardless of what other people might think. He always stressed that at the end of the day, the only person accountable for my life is myself, and that I should always endeavor to live it without compromising my principles and values. I used to be really intimidated with him, but now I’m grateful because after those 5 years, I gained not just a mentor, but a true friend.
