It’s For Real

Back in 2008, I received a scholarship from St. Andrew the Apostle Parish to support my studies in my Junior and Senior years in General Pio del Pilar National High School. My mother couldn’t send me to school because we did not have enough money and even the food that we ate was supported only by our Tito Tenet, the brother of our mother, who was working as a fish vendor in a wet market. It was a difficult time- I went to school with a Php50.00 allowance for a morning to afternoon shift in school and after class, I would walk back home and sometimes, if I had extra coins, I would ride a jeepney. My high school days were tough, though with the help and support of our parish they made my dream to graduate come true.

The next step after my high school graduation was to complete my Tertiary education and I had nowhere to go. Thankfully, I passed the entrance exam in Adamson University but at that time, we still didn’t have any money to pay for the tuition fee. I applied for a scholarship and luckily, I received a 50% scholarship for my tuition fee. The problem was then how to pay for the other half.  I asked our dear pastor in parish if he could help support my studies and he granted a helping hand once again. They agreed to a full scholarship from my Sophomore to Junior years and on top of that, they gave me meal and transportation allowances as well as a weekly budget for my other expenses.

I could still remember that there was one point I stopped believing that I would finish my bachelors degree but I kept on dreaming for the things that seemed impossible. And I made it! I marched during my graduation last April 2014 in PICC and now, all the memories of trials and things that used to pull me down only uplift my spirits and motivate me to achieve success.

The line I always give my fellow youth is this: “Ang pagiging mahirap ay hindi dahilan para humadlang sa iyong mga pangarap basta’t may pagsusumikap at determinasyon ka abutin ang mga pangarap mo, tiyak maabot niyo ang lahat ng ito.” We all have struggles and burdens in life; what we need is to have faith in God and learn to lift up to him all your worries. Loving the people around you will also help. #Brew2014 #Dreamsuccess

I hope my story will help to inspire others.
