A Teacher’s Calling

“There is grace in giving that goes beyond generosity. We give not only because we can, but because of GOD and His grace working in and through us. It is GOD’s character to give and only when we learn who GOD is and rely on His grace will we truly be able to see and experience the grace of giving.”
This was the first thing I’ve read when I opened the pages of the The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Journal. I almost cried. Just when you think you’re on the verge of giving up, GOD gives you hope.

Just today, I got my journal that coincides with the outreach activity organized by our group M.A.F.I. A. (Mars And Friends In Action) for underprivileged students. We brought them to a science museum for free. With the help of my friends, we were able to raise funds for the transportation, food, and event t-shirt. “GOD always provides, and He uses people as instruments to help us carry out our projects.”

I am a product of a public school– and I am proud of it!  I’ve been teaching in a public school for 11 years now. 22 years ago, I spent my elementary days in this place as a student. Now, I am already teaching in the same school where I graduated. Among all my classmates, I am the only one who became a teacher. More than a profession, I must say that this is much more of a CALLING. With the challenges we face in the public school system, it takes someone with a BIG heart for kids to stay in this very challenging career. Compassion is really the name of the game.

I am partly who I am because of the teachers I’ve encountered in the past that made me believe in myself. Doing outreach projects for my less fortunate students is my way of giving back. Hopefully, in the future, they will also do the same.
